French formal gardens
Symmetrical spaces
Designed based on the axes and symmetry of spaces, French formal gardens feature a variety of elements including sculpted plants (topiaries) and natural plants (woods, forests etc.).
In the 17th and 18th centuries, French formal gardens were created to be admired from castles. They also offered the owner status and a foundation.
Traditional gardens were decorated with ponds and sculptures, hid a vegetable patch or reserved an orange grove.
Today, Eric Lequertier has all the historical knowledge to recreate, restore and adapt the soul of such gardens for you.
